The most difficult part of venturing into the event hosting world has been getting people signed up to attend. I am not sure what the deterrents are, but based off of a few conversations I've had I'm going to do a little myth busting.
Myth 1: "I cannot be away from my family that long."
Yes you can. And you should. The entire purpose behind the creation of the Parent Empowerment Summit is to provide the knowledge and resources you need to help your family thrive. All will be well (even if you are gone overnight!). This is self-care, while refueling and empowering yourself.
Myth 2: "I cannot afford to go."
You can. In fact, you can't afford not to. If your child is struggling at school and/or your family life at home is challenging, you need to be here. You need support, connection, the tools, and knowledge to return home ready to act on what you've learned. Crowdsource. Ask for a small loan. Sell a few things on Marketplace. Seek out a local civic or disability support organization and ask for a grant. You can make it happen.
Myth 3: "I can't go alone. I'm too scared."
We will welcome you with a smile and an encouraging hug if you need one. We promise you will feel nothing but encouragement and warmth in a room full of people who get it. People come as strangers and leave as friends. For real. Grow your support network and find comfort knowing you are not alone.
There you have it, friends. The Summit has been designed FOR parents BY a parent. I am you. I live this life every single day and have channelled my frustrations, wants, needs, and lessons learned into one day to help and support parents raising exceptional children.
